So recently I have been a whole let less motivated than normal as you can see here on Mates Madness I have been a whole lot less active putting up little to no posts over the last few weeks, I am constantly feeling tired and run down I put it down to just trying to do to much I have been pretty go go go over the 8 weeks with working all day then picking up my girls, getting dinner ready trying to do some work on this site and other online projects and then repeat, on the weekends I have been working on the 3 different projects I have going on in my front and back yards leaving little to no time to rest and recharge.
I am keen to do as much as possible myself for a number of reasons, its great to look at the finished product and know I did that or I at least helped do that. The second one being do it yourself (DIY) is a whole cheaper which leaves me more money to either enjoy life start another project outdoors or invest online in a possible opportunity. The 3rd reason I need to exercise the more I don’t get any exercise the lazier and less energetic I seem to feel. That being said with being more active comes the need for more time to recharge especially at the start and that is what I am struggling with.
In addition to this work seems to have stagnated, both in my day job and here on the site both are lacking progression, visitors here have not grown and are not staying longer and at work the next step of advancement is not really there. In both cases I need to have a hard look to find the drive to push myself to succeed. Here on Mates Madness alot of the drive went when our App developer account was cancelled, the apps were really starting to take off and get some downloads and then over night it was all gone without even a chance to fix it. At work the next job the next promotion just doesn’t seem to be insight, the targets I have rest heavily on the shoulders of other peoples input and they just don’t seem to be up to the task which is of course very frustrating.
Its time to get back to basics little goals, 1 step at a time sort out my motivational issues pick some goals and put my head down and work hard towards them but first of all step 1 take a few days to relax and recharge go on a bit of a go slow for a few days and try to kick back and relax as much as possible and then go from there.
Everyone for this weeks Video of the week I chose a video of something Matt and I have talk about doing and maybe making a video our self
My favourite trick in this video would have to be the first trick making the flame of the lighter a lot bigger then when you get the lighter the first time because how many time would you use a lighter and the flame be too small then you want it to be at least with this trick you will be able to make the flame to the size of your desire and take it back to the size of the flame when you first got because it was to big to use.
How cool is the third trick using three match sticks tying tin foil around the top of the three matches using a lighter on the tin foil and making it turn into a little rocket. If Matt and I were to make a video using some of these tricks or some of our own this would have to be one i would like to try and so you how we did it.
Another trick I have always wanted to do is light a tealight candle and put on a plate with some liquid on the plate and putting a glass over the top of the candle and getting the liquid up the glass from the plate. The reason it does that is because the oxygen gets taking away from the candle and the liquid go up the the glass because the candle is trying to get some oxygen.
What was your favourite trick and do you think you would try any of these tricks and empress some of your family or friends or just save as a party trick to show what you can do.
Until next time
I thought it was about time we shared an update about the site, what we have achieved so far and our plans for the coming months. After almost 3 full months in we are tracking nicely we have just over 70 pieces of content up and are slowly starting to see organic search traffic arrive which is a real positive. We have also recently had an increase in social media generated traffic as a result of your shares and likes so thank you very much for your ongoing support.
Our Youtube channel is also growing and now has 50+ subscribers and counting. Getting quality content on our YouTube channel is a big focus for us over the next month so stayed tuned there.
Semi external to this website we also have 13+ apps in Google Play check them out now and show your support there will a review. For apple users we are not yet on the App Store but it is a goal in the future we just don’t have a time frame on this as it requires a few things that we don’t have in place at the moment.
From an income point of view we are averaging about $5 per month across all platforms in total with the majority coming from the website here and small amounts from our apps. The apps though have shown a solid increase in downloads and are now slowly starting to produce some consistent earning over the past few weeks, I would suggest these numbers are slowly going to continue to increase overtime into a nice passive income as we get more apps up and get better at marketing them.
You may have noticed no weekly wrap posts over the last few weeks and this is due to us making the decision to ends both the weekly and monthly wraps for the time being as we were not seeing significant value from these weekly posts. That being said should people request them or traffic have a decline in the coming weeks this may be revisited.
Other regular posts have taken off quite well and appear to be very popular these posts being Blast from the past and Video of the week. If you would like to nominate your video for video of the week reply to the most recent video of the week post at anytime or hit us up on twitter@matesmadness .
Moving forward we are looking to incorporate product reviews both written and video versions initially using products purchased for the site or to be used in videos. These reviews will be honest feedback either good or bad and at times will contain affiliate links to further improve our income streams. Should you have a product you would like us to review reach out to us to on twitter @matesmadness to discuss.
Primarily the focus over the next month is content covering games/apps posts and our own videos, we are having a big push to get to 500 Youtube subscribers and your support by subscribing to our channel downloading rating and reviewing our apps and commenting on posts here on Mates Madness is a required to help us to continue to grow. If you have suggestions/requests for content let us know below
Everyone for the second video of the week I found a challenge type video that I know Matt and myself would like to try it and upload to our youtube channel which you can find here https://www.youtube.com
You can see in the video I found are just some mates kicking around the football in an AFL related challenge with you trying to not get the letters of the word HORSE which means you try and get a goal and try not get any letters of the word horse. Courtesy of the video goes to Dylan Holt and you can check out his youtube channel by clicking the link here https://www.youtube.com
My favourite shot in the whole video would have to be the dribble kick on the boundary to get it in and try not get the first letter of Horse this is probably one of the hardest kick to do if you haven’t done it before I haven’t done this shot but I reckon if I practice it I will be able to get it. I reckon the hardest shot other the shot dribble kick from the boundary would have to be the opposite foot torpedo kick. The reason why is because how many times would you use your other foot to kick the football let alone do a torpedo kick.
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the second post of video of the week leave a comment if you would like to see Matt and myself try this challenge. Also, in that comment why not say what your favourite shot is and why that shot is your favourite shot in the video.
If you would like to see a type of video for video of the week I would like to hear you thoughts and maybe make them a video of the week.
until next time
Well game 2 of my Aussie Rules comeback was not a great one, the team was short leaving us with no one on the bench resulting in the coach and runner pulling on a jumper for the just in case factor. Although us being short was a bad thing it also gave me much needed game time on the ground allowing me to start on the field. I started in a back pocket a position I have probably only played 4 or 5 times in my entire career so it was a bit different. On top of not playing the position we were playing a fit team with a strong bench meaning the ball was down there constantly, the player I was on was either clever or really lazy and he wasn’t keen to go at the ball much and always ended get the ball over the back, most of the time it looked like he almost hadn’t moved and happened to just be in the right place.
At quarter time I got moved to the half forward line and managed to get a couple of possessions, but continually found myself over running the ball, miss reading the bounce, getting a bad bounce or just fumbling the ball it was very frustrating.
At half time the body was starting to stiffen up a little as it was more than I had run in a long time, I got a my hands on the ball early in the third and when pushing my self hard to mark a ball I felt it got ping my right hamstring was gone, I pulled up super quick barely able to put pressure I my right leg even though the ball was still in the vicinity I could barely move the leg was tight and any movement of my leg shot pain through my hamstring. I came from the ground instantly I spent the rest of the game watching the rest of the 100 point drubbing from the bench. I had never done a hamstring before but I can tell you it is painful, until straining the muscle you have no idea how much you use it. It was my right leg so driving home was agony braking accelerating everything causing pain to shoot through my leg. I was suppose to be at the showdown but I needed to get home and start icing the hammy, I have a split level house and getting up those five stairs to get to the freezer felt like I was climbing a mountain. I spent the night on and off icing it until trying to sleep which was annoying that night any movement of my leg and I was awake. The next day I was pretty much stuck to the couch which sucked because I was suppose to be the one doing everything for my wife (Sarah) with it being Mothers day and I have arranged for my sister to come over for lunch to have an early birthday lunch for Sarah’s birthday.
Two days on now there is still some pain and quite a bit of discomfort walking, driving and almost anything relating to moving my leg. Looks like game 3 of the footy comeback might be a few weeks away.
For the next week or so compression bandages and in a few days some light stretching followed by trying to strengthen the muscle and surrounding muscles such as the glutes to stop it from happening again.
As mentioned in last weeks weekly wrap I had been thinking about playing football again, after much thinking I decided to give it ago. Yesterday I made my debut for the Modbury Hawks D grade and wow did it show me exactly how unfit I really am. I sat on the bench for the first half and when I finally I got on the ground I played for about 10 minutes and my leg muscles were tightening and I could barely breath. I have a long way to go in the fitness side of things to be able to run out a quarter let alone a game.
I managed to get a couple of handballs in my 20 odd minutes in the second half and laid a shepherd which allowed a team mate to kick a goal. I had my own chance to get on the score board but fumbled the dew covered ball.
After game one based on my limited playing time the legs are fine but my left shoulder is in a fair bit of pain I don’t even remember the incident which injured it but I know that the point of my shoulder is dam sore. It has a similar type of pain to when I injured my AC joint when I was younger. So the play for the next week is just to limit use of it where possible and apply volataren over the next week to allow it to heal enough to play next week.
From here improvement is tough, I am going to struggle to get out on the training track in time to participate in training with Sarah not getting home from work until half way through training. Maybe for the time being I can head out late and just focus on running to get some k’s into the legs and improve my lung capacity and treat it similar to a preseason and hopefully the skills come back naturally over time the more game time I get throughout the rest of the season.
Goals for this season other than to just get through it, it would be great to get on the scoreboard, start on the ground and run out an entire quarter. Small steps in the comeback, If get through the rest of the season then I can sit back and seriously think about next season, will I go around again which at this point I would like to, if so am I going to put a bit more work into and really give it everything possible. Only time well tell on this though depending how this year goes.
Over the next few weeks I will try to organise some photos and video footage of how I am progressing.
So we have just finished our first full month since relaunching Mates Madness from scratch so I thought I would give you a quick April wrap up. As expected its been a slow build but things are coming along nicely. Throughout the month we have had 140 different visitors many of them coming back more than once. These visitors have viewed the 28 new pieces of content added to the site which contained about 15 different videos. although through the month it did not seem like we got that many different posts up its very pleasing showing that we averaged just under one new piece of content each day.
Our most popular post for the month was Kieran’s AFL evolution DLC post with 43 views and our 2nd most popular post for the month is actually only 5 days old “New Android App – Astronaut Space Walk” This post has had 30 views.
19 comments were made against posts with 3 of those comments coming from readers just like yourself which is great to see people already getting involved across the Mates Madness website. I am hoping for this number to double during May. The next target is to get some comments on our Youtube channel and double our number of subscribers there from 8 to 16. The overall goal is to get to 1,000 subscribers as that is one of the requirements needing to be meet to monetize the channel which is a clear goal for us.
In regards to Android app development we now have 10 apps up on the Playstore with about 30 installs across all 10 apps, we have earnt about $3.50 from these apps which is great starting platform. Across all income channels we earnt $6 for the month of April which is no where near anything to write home about but it does give us some indication of what is working, what needs work and what to move away from.
Goals for the month of May
- Get 10 quality videos up 5 of which are to feature Kieran or myself
- Get 10 new apps on the Playstore
- Get 31 new posts here on the Mates Madness website (1 per day)
- Begin working with an affiliate program such as Amazon
- 10 twitter posts
- 25% increase in income
- 50% increase in comments from visitors to Mates Madness
- Youtube channel to 20 subscribers
- 1 new recurring theme developed
- 50 app downloads
- 5 app reviews
Wish us luck, even better support us, leave a comment, search Mates Madness on the Playstore and download and test one of our apps, subscribe to our Youtube channel. You may not think you are doing much but every little bit of support helps and we really do appreciate it.
Even though this week was a short week at work it felt like a long one, getting back into the work groove after a few weeks off was tough, that being said I still made time to get on Mates Madness early in the week to share another of the videos taken whilst I was in Melbourne on my family holiday. Check out the active animals at the Melbourne Zoo.
Kieran shared his overall Batman collection, there is some pretty cool stuff there. Do you guys have a favourite from his current Batman Collection
Kieran and I also conducted a little bit of mad science (see the pun, Mates Madness) we dropped a whole heap of different lollies into Coca Cola (Coke) to check out the different reactions so pretty cool and some were fizzers.
As mentioned above it was short work week with Anzac Day falling mid week on a Wednesday, Lest We Forget. A day of acknowledgement of a fallen soldiers a day where we reflect on the significant sacrifices made by the Australian and New Zealand soldiers to enable us to have the life that we have today.
Mates Madness launched a new app and probably the best app that we have made so far Astronaut Space Walk a flappy bird clone but instead of an Astronaut dodging Super Mario style tubes you guide an Astronaut between the satellites on his space walk, its no where near as easy as it looks.
Kieran shared his AFL fantasy team and explained some of his reasons behind his selections and his lack of trades, personally with Ablett being injured for a few weeks now I would have traded him out or at least moved him to the bench, there are also some really good new players in the AFL system this year getting games already so I have made some changes to my bench players before prices went up and grabbed some really good bargains on those players but its looks like he has missed out on that.
That’s where the site but not where my week ended, Friday afternoon I found out one of the guys who works at my youngest daughters child care plays footy and his team the Modbury Hawks forfeited the week before because they were short of players. I have not played football (Aussies Rules) in 8-9 years about this time every year I get itchy feet and consider going back out to play somewhere. This information about Modbury has given me itchy feet. Modbury’s ground is only 5 minutes from home and they are also the Hawks which is a big selling point for me. The team he plays in is the D grade so the bottom end competition and considering how long its been since I have played and how unfit I am its the perfect place for me to have a go. Yesterday to help me decide I went out to watch the team play (the C grade had a bye so a few players dropped down for the day giving the them a full side). The team looks good there are a few good players and also a few not so good players who are just out there to have a bit of fun like what I am thinking of doing. This is encouraging for me because it means I wont look out of place while I find a bit of fitness and allowing my skill level to gradually improve over the course of the season. So I have something to think about, if I am going to play I need to make a decision by Wednesday as I will need to go buy some boots and stuff and train and meet the team Thursday night to give me a shot at playing this coming weekend. I will keep you updated with my decision and if I decide to play I will try to arrange either Kieran or someone else to come watch to try to capture some footage of how I go.
Thats a wrap folks
So as part of my family holiday we visited Melbourne Zoo, now it was by far not the biggest nor had the most animals but it was probably the best zoo experience I have had, almost all of the animals were up and about including pretty much all the big draw card animals you can think of when you think about going to a zoo. I was very impressed, the enclosures were large, the views of the animals were great I mean in all but 3 or 4 exhibits you didn’t have to spend 2 minutes finding the animals they were right there in front of you piratically saying hello.
Check out our short video of the lion this big cat was just a couple of metres from the glass and my little 3 yr old girl walked right up to the glass to get a good look, it may as well have been a kitten at the pet store as far as she was concened
Another of the big cats were up and about as well with the tiger pacing back and forth along the edge of its enclosure before going for a big wander to the other side. This is one of two tigers, the other in a different part of the zoo.
Some of the other animals on display included a pigmi hippo, plenty of different types of primates from chimps, gorilla and baboons. Other animals included an elephant, near the back of its enclosure pacing, 3 giraffes which we got a great view of and some zebras which were near the back of there exhibit looking like they wanted to get it to say hi to the giraffes. I also caught an active snake as we walked by which was pretty cool as most of the times at zoos they are just laying there still. As mentioned above I thought Melbourne Zoo was great and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Melbourne or even if you live there if you haven’t been for a while go back and check it out.
If you like these videos visit our you tube channel and subscribe as not all videos we take/make are here on Mates Madness.
A more up beat week over the last 7 days, a few shares from my holiday last weekend (more to come next week). The first was my footy footage of the Hawks V Melbourne
A great game to watch all be it freezing cold, even Iron Man made and appearance to promote an Avengers event in Melbourne. Throughout the rest of the week to be honest I lazed around trying to relax and enjoy the the rest of my holidays from work which didn’t quite go to plan with plenty of house work needing to be done.
I also shared with you all footage from Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium a place my girls aged 6 and 3 loved there was so many different marine animals to see and the tanks were fantastic you got a great view of most of them, Laila my eldest loved the penguins but there were plenty of other fish to see
We would love for you to subscribe to our you tube channel, Kieran got a hair cut and showed us his new do he was also quite excited when his team Geelong got up over Port Adelaide
Something we didn’t discuss here on the Mates Madness website but was a pretty big effort in sport (shared on our twitter account) was Oakland A’s left handed pitching pitching the first no hitter of the 2018 MLB season and the first for the Boston no hit game for the Boston Red Sox since Aprill 22 1993 25 years ago.
So if you have not done so follow us on Twitter, subscribe to our You Tube channel and share this post on your socials and any other post here on Mates Madness that you enjoy.
