A more up beat week over the last 7 days, a few shares from my holiday last weekend (more to come next week). The first was my footy footage of the Hawks V Melbourne
A great game to watch all be it freezing cold, even Iron Man made and appearance to promote an Avengers event in Melbourne. Throughout the rest of the week to be honest I lazed around trying to relax and enjoy the the rest of my holidays from work which didn’t quite go to plan with plenty of house work needing to be done.
I also shared with you all footage from Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium a place my girls aged 6 and 3 loved there was so many different marine animals to see and the tanks were fantastic you got a great view of most of them, Laila my eldest loved the penguins but there were plenty of other fish to see
Something we didn’t discuss here on the Mates Madness website but was a pretty big effort in sport (shared on our twitter account) was Oakland A’s left handed pitching pitching the first no hitter of the 2018 MLB season and the first for the Boston no hit game for the Boston Red Sox since Aprill 22 1993 25 years ago.

as you guys know me and Matt have season membership passes to all port home games and me being a Geelong supporter I was happy about this being a Port home game as I only get to wear my Geelong stuff to watch them live once maybe twice a year.
You can see all the Port Adelaide vs Geelong footage I took in the video below of what I got. With it being the Anzac round, they do the last post and National Anthem you can almost hear a pin drop with how quiet it is in the ground and it just picks up when the National Anthem is done with the players go back and wait for the game to start.
I was happy with the result but I would of thought the Peter Badcoe medal should of gone to somebody else then Joel Selwood I would like to see George Horlin-Smith win it. Because George was on the ball more than Joel and Had more Disposals and didn’t lose the ball to much ever.
But other then that this was an alright game of football and I hope it will be like this for the rest of the year
after the game we went and got some tea and went back to Damo house and played some NBA 2k18. I was just watching Matt and Damo play, they chose to go all-time best with Matt picking the New York Knicks and Damo picking The Philadelphia 76ers. Damo won the game with Wilt Chamberlin dominating getting 29 points and 17 rebounds.
Maybe we might do a post on us playing each other and seeing who is the best.
So on the Sunday of my family holiday I went to the MCG to check watch the Hawks play the Demons, I was pretty excited I don’t get to see Hawthorn in Melbourne very often so I was really hoping for a win for the Hawks. The weather was not great and I had on only my Hawks media polo from a few years ago so with it only being about 17 degrees and raining on and off I was getting pretty cold. Check out the jacket I brought below (not my best selfie effort) maybe I could smile or something…
I had a great view of the game on the wing almost directly in line with the centre circle, throughout the game I took a whole bunch of video as well check out the merged video footage

I tried to capture a few goals and some centre clearances, being a Hawks fan I focused way more on when they had the ball. Forgive my poor footage at times I got distracted watching the game sorry…
I found it great to watch Tom Mitchell live, he didn’t have his best game but he works hard always running and getting very few cheap possessions. Melbourne paid him very close attention and the stoppages with Jones almost glued to him yet he was still the leading clearance getting for the game. I reckon he has a great shot to win a Brownlow over the next 2-4 years if he stays injury free. He does need to work on his disposal a little more, he doesn’t quite have the elite kicking skills of some of the more recent great Hawthorn midfielders.
Roughy started slow but got into the game as it went on and we are finally starting to see dividends into the Hawks recruitment of Jaeger O’Meara if he can stay injury free they have a pretty impressive midfield.
From there I pretty much left on a short get away with my family, spent the whole first day on the road so didn’t get to see or do to much left at 7am and arrived between 5 and 6pm. There were a few playgrounds along the way which we stopped for the girls to play on so they got through the drive ok. Whilst away in Melbourne we did a fair bit of walking across the three days (usually an easy time to get active). I was hoping to get in at least 10k steps each of those 3 days, I feel short 1 day but far exceeded that target on day 3. On my getting active post I mentioned my Fitbit that I started wearing again but the short holiday reminded me why I stopped wearing it, SHORT Battery life, it should be getting 5 days and barely got me through 3. Check out the below screen shots from my Iphone across the 3 days, As you can see I smashed the goal as a whole just with days 1 and 3 and had a bit of a lean day on day 2 in comparison,
I’m not going to go into to much about where we visited as I have a few videos to upload and share with you all over the next week or so, so your just going to just have to wait in suspense and see.
Kieran closed out the week with some new about about Cricket Australia’s new broadcast deal with Channel 7 and Foxtel its a great money earner for Cricket Australia, but to lose ODI’s and IT20’s on free to air isn’t great for the game in my opinion, crowds have already dropped for ODI’s and now the viewing with drop as well putting the game in real doubt over the next 5 years, I would suggest the fixture will flip in that period from and 5-10 game ODI series/Tri Series and 3 IT20’s to 3ODI’s and a 5-10 game IT20 series/Tri Series. I guess only time will tell
All going well the next week should make up for the lean week in the way of content as I share with you some of the places I visited in Melbourne including a few short videos.
with the news of the Australian cricket broadcast coming from channel 9 to channel 7 and fox sports I thought it would be good to talk about it
This will be the first time that any form of cricket will be on channel 7 but not the first-time Australian home cricket matches have been on Foxtel. It’s a six-year deal and worth about 1.2 billion dollars with Seven get the right to telecast cricket they have become the only free to air TV network to have the biggest Australian winter sport AFL and the biggest Australian summer sport Cricket. There is also talk that there will be different commentary teams for Foxtel and Channel seven when the men’s tests are on the women’s internationals, the 43 big bash games on Channel seven and all the WBBL. I would like if they had the same teams for Foxtel and Channel seven but Channel seven doesn’t have all the men’s big bash games they only have 43 were as Foxtel will show those 43 but have 16 exclusive big bash matches also with Foxtel you will get all the Men’s T20Is and all the Men’s ODIS so if you want to watch every single cricket match in Australia now you will need to get Foxtel or know some body that has Foxtel and go to there house to watch the matches.
I would like to see if the channel nine Commentary team will come over to channel seven or Foxtel to commentate or will we see a whole new Cricket Commentary team on Foxtel and seven I don’t think we will see Bruce McAvaney commentating on all the matches probably only some of them probably the Adelaide oval matches as he leaves in Adelaide and the Boxing day matches other than that he probably want commentate on any more.
I would like to see Dennis Cometti come out of retirement to at least commentate on one match in Perth as he leaves in Perth.

Getting active whilst away from home is generally much easier, there is plenty to do in such a short space of time. Plenty of walking between places lots of walking around the places you visit such as local attractions, through new shopping precients or centres.
On my first day I finally started wearing my fitbit again because I need to get active I need to lose a few KG’s and there is better time to focus on getting active then whilst on holidays and eating crap most of the time. I cracked my 10,000 step goal on the first day and I now have 3 days to go. Ill keep you updated with the daily step count whilst away and try to come up with a plan to crack the 10k step mark each day when I get home.
Also over the next few days I will try to add a few posts and videos covering some of the places we visit. If not as soon as I get home I will get up some videos and stuff
Not sure if you all have seen the first Mates Madness weekly wrap post (view it here) but I suck at throwing doubles in darts, which is pretty bad because you need to throw a double to win in either 501 or 301. I can throw 20’s consistently enough to get down in the double throwing position pretty quickly but from there it all falls to pieces.
I have decided that as I normally get down to 2 and end up throwing at double 1 if I cant learn to hit that pretty consistently I will be able to turn my fortunes around and start getting some wins on the board.

After losing a couple of games of darts (501) after having a big lead due to not being able to throw a double I decided it was time for some practice. I seem to be pretty good at getting in winning positions just not able to close games out.
As you can see I still have plenty of work to do to be able to consistently hit that double but i am getting there slowly.
Once I get this down I will move back to triple 20.
Another week is coming to close and its been a bit of a tough week for the Mates Madness team which is clearly evident by some of the content shared here this week. For me personally it was the last week of work prior to going on annual leave so each day I started to go more and more into holiday mode as a result getting out of bed in the morning got harder and harder. Now finally I have a few days at home then off interstate to Melbourne for a few days for a quick family get away, Whilst I there I will try to share what we get up to with you all. Damo had his own challenges which he has been going through for some time and more than likely some of that stuff will continue for some time but he will get through it. Kieran opened up and shared some of his struggles with losing weight and just how hard day to day life can be, I know much of the inspiration for this post comes from the tough time he and his family have had over the past 4 or so months. Kieran makes a great point in that post about how important it is to ask the people in your life especially your mates ARE YOU OK?
We ended the week with a day out at the footy followed by a few Jacks and Coke then catching up with Damo for a bite to each and talk crap for a while we did take a quick bit of pregame footage from the footy and added to our Youtube channel.
From an income point of view our passive income streams are yet to kick in really with know new apps uploaded to the play store, check out our games currently on the play store here. With only a few new downloads and and know clicks both in app and on this site all income came from impressions and was only 1 cent down from the 17 cents earnt last week. That is ok though we know this is a long term strategy we are not expecting to become overnight millionaires on anything like that. If you do download any of our games though we would love to get some feedback from you by way of a review and comments here on Mates Madness.
Hopefully the next week is a bit more up beat for everyone and I manage to get my old Android phone charging so I am able to take some screen shots of new apps to enable me to get them up on the play store.
Yesterday Kieran and I went to the Port v Brisbane game at Adelaide oval, we actually go to most Port games due to holding members general admin tickets. Yesterday’s game was much closer that it should have been Port rocked up looking like the expected to win and a result looked lazy and unwilling to run. Check out the video below for part of the warmup, and the Port pre bounce count down right through to the first score.

Port had plenty of chances to put Brisbane away especially early but could not kick straight and Brisbane made the most of there opportunities and a one point had 4 goals from 5 inside 50’s. Port finally kicked away in the 3rd but let the Lions back in the last as it looked like the Power players had put the cue in the rack and decided they had, had enough for the day. As a result the game finished within a goal and spend most of the last few minutes down the Brisbane attacking end. Port were lucky to get away with the win.
After the game we headed over the Strathmore for a drink whilst we were there we ran into my old next door neighbour Bob and his family in the pokies so we hung around for abit had a few more drinks and chatted a few drinks later Damo drove into the city to get Kieran and I as Bob had dinner reservations. The 3 of headed out for dinner outside the city in the direction of home – at this point 5 or so Jacks and Coke in I really needed to eat. After dinner we sat around and talked shit for abit and Damo and I went head to head at darts on his phone and I came out the big winner something like 2 games to 5, doubles were so much easier to hit on the phone…
After that we headed home but it was a great day out with Mates something that was one of the reasons we built this site, to encourage both ourselves and others to ensure and help people find away to get out relax and unwind with there mates. Throughout the footy season if we go out before or after a game this year I will try to share our time out with you all, this wont be every game as going out is not cheap but we will try to do something every few games.
Getting out of bed in the morning can be one of the hardest things to do especially mentally, when things are not going your way day to day many people lay there dreading going through it all over again so I thought that I would give some tips for people to work through to see if any of them work for them.
In a large percentage of cases the thing you are dreading is work related so lets focus on that in this post, lets look at getting you out of bed in the morning and off to work.
The first thing is you need to ensure your mind set right, understand why you are going to work, to pay the bills, put a roof over your head, feed yourself and family. As a result try to look at work as a positive there are many people out there that don’t have a job and those simple tasks become much harder. The next thing is remember there are not many people in this world that have a job that good they live to work, most of us work to live. As a result set goals to make sure you reward yourself foe your hard work, set small goals to give yourself regular reward but also set a large goal something to work towards, something to strive for something that when you finally achieve will give you a real sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. If hitting that goal and giving yourself that reward does not give you that feeling you probably didn’t set the right goal or didn’t make the most out of your reward.
The small goes must also be celebrated because something two years away isn’t great motivation to get up today, small steps.
The next tip is know you create your own destiny, you get out what you put in. Your life is not planned out for you, you decide what happens when it happens or at the least have a very big say in it. So if you want something to happen stop talking about it stop complaining about it not happening and work hard to make it happen. YOU CAN DO IT you just need to push yourself to make sure getting of bed. It all starts with you.
