Video of the Week

Everyone for the second video of the week I found a challenge type video that I know Matt and myself would like to try it and upload to our youtube channel which you can find here https://www.youtube.com

You can see in the video I found are just some mates kicking around the football in an AFL related challenge with you trying to not get the letters of the word HORSE which means you try and get a goal and try not get any letters of the word horse. Courtesy of the video goes to Dylan Holt and you can check out his youtube channel by clicking the link here https://www.youtube.com

My favourite shot in the whole video would have to be the dribble kick on the boundary to get it in and try not get the first letter of Horse this is probably one of the hardest kick to do if you haven’t done it before I haven’t done this shot but I reckon if I practice it I will be able to get it. I reckon the hardest shot other the shot dribble kick from the boundary would have to be the opposite foot torpedo kick. The reason why is because how many times would you use your other foot to kick the football let alone do a torpedo kick.

Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the second post of video of the week leave a comment if you would like to see Matt and myself try this challenge. Also, in that comment why not say what your favourite shot is and why that shot is your favourite shot in the video.

If you would like to see a type of video for video of the week I would like to hear you thoughts and maybe make them a video of the week.

until next time

Video of the week

We have decided to introduce a new weekly post to give you all a bit more of a background about the type of stuff we like/enjoy. It will be a weekly post with a YouTube video of something we have found during the week.  In some cases it could be something that the Mates Madness team could attempt in the future or a video either Matt or myself have found interesting.

For us Dude Perfect (the creators of our inaugural video of the week) is  one of the directions we would love to take Mates Madness in the future, I mean its a group of guys (mates) having mad fun doing stuff they clearly enjoy One of the reasons we created this site was for us to get out with our mates more, to encourage everyone else to spend more time with there mates and just for people to know they are not alone there are people out there like us who want to give guidance, confidence and motivation that we can all succeed.

The video I have chosen for this week is from Dude Perfect it is there most recent post which is a battle video they chose to make it a giant battle instead of a normal battle video. You can see what my favourite battle shot is which is under the video.

My favourite battle shot would have to be the car shot with them in the back of a pickup and trying to throw the giant dart at the giant dart board they had make.

If you have enjoyed this post I would like to hear the feedback and maybe you could recommend a video I could watch or a video with some challenges that you would like to see Matt and I attempt maybe even with other local Mates Madness fans and content creators involved in.

Until next time

Weekly Wrap 20th May 2018

Well its been a frustrating week for me, as mentioned in my footy comeback post I strained my hamstring in week 2 of my comeback. As a result everytime I move my leg I can feel the muscle pulling, daily tasks as simple as walking bending reaching up high or to the side have caused discomfort. For the first few nights everytime I moved in my sleep I would wake and even sitting here now typing I can feel the muscle almost pulsating.

Our next post of the week was Kieran’s, question about what is you favourite sport and sharing his favourite sport. From there we move to one of the worlds most amazing natural waterfalls with this weeks blast from the past Niagara Falls. If you have not already done so check out the video and listen to the noise that the falls generate.

Our final post of the week was Kieran sharing his Batman wish list with everyone, if your a fan of the Dark Night check this post out as there are some really cool stuff on the list.

As you can see its been another quiet week content wise, but we have been busy working on other things such as some new apps which should go live in the Playstore today.

Once confirmed these new apps are live we will share them with you and also give you abit of background why we choose to build those apps.

That the weekly wrap

Cheers

Blast From the Past – IFly Los Angeles

To give you all a bit of history on myself and Kieran and any other regular contributors to the site such as Damo we have introduced a new recurring weekly post Blast from the Past. This post will feature either videos or photos from something in the authors past. This could range from significant life events to travel or anything else there imagination was  able to conjure up at some point in there past.

For me personally for the next few months I will focus on travel photo’s and videos taken whilst  travelling both throughout Australia and Overseas.

I thought that I would start with a video from my trip to America (USA) whilst there we spent our first week in Los Angeles which was pretty awesome we did some some great things and ticked off a few items that were previously on the bucket list. One of those items was Universal Studios, the video below is not about Universal Studios but Universal Walk just outside the theme park which is full of shops and small attractions.

One of those attractions was Ifly which is indoor sky diving in a large wind tunnel type thing, this was an awesome experience, now its not the rush of actual skydiving which I have since done but still pretty damm good all the same. Its heaps of fun without the extreme risk such as jumping out of a perfectly good plan

As mentioned above this is the first of a brand new post type to Mates Madness as a result we would love your feedback. Also have you tried indoor skydiving before what did you think?

Cheers

My Footy Comeback

As mentioned in last weeks weekly wrap I had been thinking about playing football again, after much thinking I decided to give it ago. Yesterday I made  my debut for the Modbury Hawks D grade and wow did it show me exactly how unfit I really am. I sat on the bench for the first half and when I finally I got on the ground I played for about 10 minutes and my leg muscles were tightening and I could barely breath. I have a long way to go in the fitness side of things to be able to run out a quarter let alone a game.

I managed to get a couple of handballs in my 20 odd minutes in the second half and laid a shepherd which allowed a team mate to kick a goal. I had my own chance to get on the score board but fumbled the dew covered ball.

After game one based on my limited playing time the legs are fine but my left shoulder is in a fair bit of pain I don’t even remember the incident which injured it but I know that the point of my shoulder is dam sore. It has a similar type of pain to when I injured my AC joint when I was younger. So the play for the next week is just to limit use of it where possible and apply volataren over the next week to allow it to heal enough to play next week.

From here improvement is tough, I am going to struggle to get out on the training track in time to participate in training with Sarah not getting home from work until half way through training. Maybe for the time being I can head out late and just focus on running to get some k’s into the legs and improve my lung capacity and treat it similar to a preseason and hopefully the skills come back naturally over time the more game time I get throughout the rest of the season.

Goals for this season other than to just get through it, it would be great to get on the scoreboard, start on the ground and run out an entire quarter. Small steps in the comeback, If get through the rest of the season then I can sit back and seriously think about next season, will I go around again which at this point I would like to, if so am I going to put a bit more work into and really give it everything possible. Only time well tell on this though depending how this year goes.

Over the next few weeks I will try to organise some photos and video footage of how I am progressing.

Cheers

April Wrap

Hi All

So we have just finished our first full month since relaunching Mates Madness from scratch so I thought I would give you a quick April wrap up. As expected its been a slow build but things are coming along nicely. Throughout the month we have had 140 different visitors many of them coming back more than once. These visitors have viewed the 28 new pieces of content added to the site which contained about 15 different videos. although through the month it did not seem like we got that many different posts up its very pleasing showing that we averaged just under one new piece of content each day.

Our most popular post for the month was Kieran’s AFL evolution DLC post with 43 views and our 2nd most popular post for the month is actually only 5 days old “New Android App – Astronaut Space Walk” This post has had 30 views.

19 comments were made against posts with 3 of those comments coming from readers just like yourself which is great to see people already getting involved across the Mates Madness website. I am hoping for this number to double during May. The next target is to get some comments on our Youtube channel and double our number of subscribers there from 8 to 16. The overall goal is to get to 1,000 subscribers as that is one of the requirements needing to be meet to monetize the channel which is a clear goal for us.

In regards to Android app development we now have 10 apps up on the Playstore with about 30 installs across all 10 apps, we have earnt about $3.50 from these apps which is great starting platform. Across all income channels we earnt $6 for the month of April which is no where near anything to write home about but it does give us some indication of what is working, what needs work and what to move away from.

Goals for the month of May

  • Get 10 quality videos up 5 of which are to feature Kieran or myself
  • Get 10 new apps on the Playstore
  • Get 31 new posts here on the Mates Madness website (1 per day)
  • Begin working with an affiliate program such as Amazon
  • 10 twitter posts
  • 25% increase in income
  • 50% increase in comments from visitors to Mates Madness
  • Youtube channel to 20 subscribers
  • 1 new recurring theme developed
  • 50 app downloads
  • 5 app reviews

Wish us luck, even better support us, leave a comment, search Mates Madness on the Playstore and download and test one of our apps, subscribe to our Youtube channel. You may not think you are doing much but every little bit of support helps and we really do appreciate it.

Cheers

Matt

Mates Madness Mad Science with Coke

Hi All

Recently Kieran and I tried a few simple chemical reactions involving Coca Cola and a few other drink in the Coke range such as Diet Coke, Coke No Sugar Sprite and Fanta. We dropped a range of different lollies into the drinks to watch the reaction.

As you can see in the video above we have a lot of different sweet treats that we use in the Cokes and yes we had a few left over to eat. The Orange balloon that was inflated by the chemical reaction was still up 20 minutes later and showed no signs of deflating anytime soon.

Afterwards we remembered that we also had a pack of fruit tingles and a couple of other lollies so we might have to make a second version of this at some stage. I was excited to test out the Mentos reaction which is very common it also had the best reaction out of all of the sweets we tested. I did expect a better reaction from bicarb soda as well but oh well.

Smartly we decided to do this experiment in a park to limit the sticky clean up with Coke and the other drinks going everywhere.

Now from the video we can see that our camera skills need a bit of work but bare with us we will get better

We are hoping to do a range of experiments with white vinegar next if this video is well received, are there anything that you would like to see us mix with vinegar?

Cheers

Melbourne Zoo – Some very active Animals on display

So as part of my family holiday we visited Melbourne Zoo, now it was by far not the biggest nor had the most animals but it was probably the best zoo experience I have had, almost all of the animals were up and about including pretty much all the big draw card animals you can think of when you think about going to a zoo. I was very impressed, the enclosures were large, the views of the animals were great I mean in all but 3 or 4 exhibits you didn’t have to spend 2 minutes finding the animals they were right there in front of you piratically saying hello.

Check out our short video of the lion this big cat was just a couple of metres from the glass and my little 3 yr old girl walked right up to the glass to get a good look, it may as well have been a kitten at the pet store as far as she was concened

Another of the big cats were up and about as well with the tiger pacing back and forth along the edge of its enclosure before going for a big wander to the other side. This is one of two tigers, the other in a different part of the zoo.

Some of the other animals on display included a pigmi hippo, plenty of different types of primates from chimps, gorilla and baboons. Other animals included an elephant, near the back of its enclosure pacing, 3 giraffes which we got a great view of and some zebras which were near the back of there exhibit looking like they wanted to get it to say hi to the giraffes. I also caught an active snake as we walked by which was pretty cool as most of the times at zoos they are just laying there still. As mentioned above I thought Melbourne Zoo was great and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Melbourne or even if you live there if you haven’t been for a while go back and check it out.

Weekly Wrap 22nd April 2018

A more up beat week over the last 7 days, a few shares from my holiday last weekend (more to come next week). The first was my footy footage of the Hawks V Melbourne

A great game to watch all be it freezing cold, even Iron Man made and appearance to promote an  Avengers event in Melbourne. Throughout the rest of the week to be honest I lazed around trying to relax and enjoy the the rest of my holidays from work which didn’t quite go to plan with plenty of house work needing to be done.

I also shared with you all footage from Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium a place my girls aged 6 and 3 loved there was so many different marine animals to see and the tanks were fantastic you got a great view of most of them, Laila my eldest loved the penguins but there were plenty of other fish to see

We would love for you to subscribe to our you tube channel, Kieran got a hair cut and showed us his new do he was also quite excited when his team Geelong got up over Port Adelaide

Something we didn’t discuss here on the Mates Madness website but was a pretty big effort in sport (shared on our twitter account) was Oakland A’s left handed pitching pitching the first no hitter of the 2018 MLB season and the first for the Boston no hit game for the Boston Red Sox since Aprill 22 1993 25 years ago.

So if you have not done so follow us on Twitter, subscribe to our You Tube channel and share this post on your socials and any other post here on Mates Madness that you enjoy.
