Well its been a crazy few days, along day at work Friday where I took a short lunch time walk and then created a whole heap of short 10 minute walks throughout the day, which was great to get me close to that 10k goal (which I fell short of) but it also made my day at work that bit longer which was a little frustrating. You can see from the screenshot from my phone I got with 900 steps 440 metres of my goal and hit the 3k calorie goal which is great from a weight loss point of view.
From there Saturday was huge with my football comeback being over for the time being with the D grade team being pulled from the comp due to a lack of player numbers as a result of injuries such as my hamstring I decided to start the morning with a walk/run. The running didn’t get me very far and showed just how unfit I am, I think I lasted about 2-3 mins which is pathetic but its a base to build up from I guess. All up I walked for just over an hour which put me on about 8,000 steps and it was only about 11am great start to the day. From there I took both my girls for short individual walks and by the time that was done I was at over 10k and I hadn’t even had lunch. From there that is where the fun begins I purchased 3 tonnes of loam for my backyard, sounds simple right get a wheel barrow and move it down to the backyard not easy but not hard. That would have been great except I have a split level home which makes a wheel barrow very difficult to use. from there my walk ways around my house are very narrow once you take into account the window seals and air conditioner unit so by the bucket load it is. after almost 2 hours of filling bucket loads and walking them the 30 metres down the backyard up and down the stairs I was spent and had only made a small dent in the 3 tonne loam pile but the Fitbit results speak for themselves
Sunday more loam to move, a big thanks to Kieran for coming to help for 3-4 hours helping me move just half the pile of loam getting a nice loam layer over about 60% of my backyard, more up and down the stairs but the killer for me that day was my sloped driveway after a few hours that 4-5 metre driveway felt like it went for about 20 metres the legs, especially the ankles could really feel it and are still feeling it today but the job was getting done I was saving money and getting a whole heap of much needed exercise. From there on the drive to drop Kieran home we stopped and smashed out some Pokemon Go raids and hit a whole heap of Poke stops and catching a few Pokemon.
I am taking it easy today due to some serious ankle soreness before planning to spend another couple of hours moving loam tomorrow afternoon after work before the rain hits in the coming days.
So after yesterday in my update post talking about wanting to get active again as I need to get back to losing weight and especially stop putting it on.
I decided I would start to wear my Fitbit Surge again to motivate me to move more, or at least show me how lazy I am being. On top of that I got very hands on in my front yard preparing the area for my soon to be constructed retaining wall. From there was a fair bit of the dug up dirt transferred from the front to the back.
In addition to this I recently downloaded Pokemon Go again to encourage me to get active and walk more (video screen recordings coming soon). So I have already ticked off a number of things on my list from my last post which I’m pretty happy about. Check out my Fitbit stats from yesterday
Now I am super happy with my result but at the same time really annoyed with myself that I couldn’t get my butt of the couch away from the TV for 2 minutes to do another 83 steps to hit my 10k step goal to day I am making sure I hit that goal, I am doing more work in the yard which will help And will walk up and down the hallway to get whatever I am sure before I get into nighttime TV. If I can’t hit the goal on the weekend I will be struggling as its much easier to do now than it will be come Monday when I am back at work and will need to be spending most of the day working at my desk. At the moment though I am resisting the urge to go binge on a packet of chips or maybe some biscuits, wish me luck.
Getting active whilst away from home is generally much easier, there is plenty to do in such a short space of time. Plenty of walking between places lots of walking around the places you visit such as local attractions, through new shopping precients or centres.
On my first day I finally started wearing my fitbit again because I need to get active I need to lose a few KG’s and there is better time to focus on getting active then whilst on holidays and eating crap most of the time. I cracked my 10,000 step goal on the first day and I now have 3 days to go. Ill keep you updated with the daily step count whilst away and try to come up with a plan to crack the 10k step mark each day when I get home.
Also over the next few days I will try to add a few posts and videos covering some of the places we visit. If not as soon as I get home I will get up some videos and stuff
Losing weight is one of the hardest things for some people to do as I have realised recently but I have found some small ways to help me and they will hopefully help you guys aswell.
Portion control is a major one that I have found it means you don’t need to stop eating chips and anything sweet it just means you need to cut it down to at least 10 chips instead of half a packet or one chocolate instead of 5 also if your drink soft drinks instead of having a couple of glass a day or a couple cans try cutting it down to at least half a glass a day or one can.
another one I have found is just getting up from sitting down doing something on my computer to go for a quick walk to get you off the computer because I realised after siting at my computer for a long time I start to see stars and feel dizzy because of siting and looking at a screen for to long.
Another one to help which is one most people will know is exercising but some people find it hard next time you try to exercise try doing with some friends that are also exercising it will help you probably go longer then just doing by yourself and who wants to exercise by themselves you will start exercising and after about 10 to 15 minutes your going to say to yourself why am I doing this but if you exercise with friends you will go longer because they will hopefully motivative you to do what exercise you are doing.
While you are exercising try to take a 3 to 5 minute brake every half an hour from doing anything hard but try to keep your heart rate up by just walking around if you don’t walk around and keep your heart rate up, when you get back to doing exercise after you brake you are going to feel like not doing it but if you keep your heart rate up it will help you get back to doing the exercise easier.
Just remember your not alone there are more people out in the world just like you trying to lose weight so if we all join together we will all be able to lose weight together.
