Well another week has come to and end all be it a quiet week here on Mates Madness so its time for the weekly wrap. The week started on the site with me filming myself trying to throw a double something I clearly suck at (check out the video and post here). From there Kieran showed the darts he is currently using, much better than the cheap stuff I am currently throwing.
From there I pretty much left on a short get away with my family, spent the whole first day on the road so didn’t get to see or do to much left at 7am and arrived between 5 and 6pm. There were a few playgrounds along the way which we stopped for the girls to play on so they got through the drive ok. Whilst away in Melbourne we did a fair bit of walking across the three days (usually an easy time to get active). I was hoping to get in at least 10k steps each of those 3 days, I feel short 1 day but far exceeded that target on day 3. On my getting active post I mentioned my Fitbit that I started wearing again but the short holiday reminded me why I stopped wearing it, SHORT Battery life, it should be getting 5 days and barely got me through 3. Check out the below screen shots from my Iphone across the 3 days, As you can see I smashed the goal as a whole just with days 1 and 3 and had a bit of a lean day on day 2 in comparison,
I’m not going to go into to much about where we visited as I have a few videos to upload and share with you all over the next week or so, so your just going to just have to wait in suspense and see.
Kieran closed out the week with some new about about Cricket Australia’s new broadcast deal with Channel 7 and Foxtel its a great money earner for Cricket Australia, but to lose ODI’s and IT20’s on free to air isn’t great for the game in my opinion, crowds have already dropped for ODI’s and now the viewing with drop as well putting the game in real doubt over the next 5 years, I would suggest the fixture will flip in that period from and 5-10 game ODI series/Tri Series and 3 IT20’s to 3ODI’s and a 5-10 game IT20 series/Tri Series. I guess only time will tell
All going well the next week should make up for the lean week in the way of content as I share with you some of the places I visited in Melbourne including a few short videos.
That’s the weekly wrap
Everyone with Matt show you his darts is this video below which is on our YouTube channel
I thought I would show you my darts that I’m using at the moment
The darts that I’m using are tungsten 26-gram darts which I got from my local sports store, the flights that I’m using are target power flights and the shaft I’m using are Harrows nylon grip
you will also see a case next to them which is a harrows case it is good as it can hold three darts that are complete to use with the flights on them already so all you need to do is get them out of the case to throw at the dartboard
you will notice the inside of the case with the darts already set up to throw and some spare flights and shafts aswell
I think it is a good idea to have spare flights and shafts on you at all time that you are throwing darts just because what if a shaft brakes or you don’t like using those flight anymore you can change the shaft to a new one and if you don’t like the flight you have a spare set to change to.
Just like Matt I have trouble getting doubles but mine are more of double 3’s which is down the bottom of the dart board I should really try and throw darts at one of the top double like 20, 5 or 1 and if i miss i will hopefully be above the double and I will just need to go a little bit lower if I’m still throwing at double 3 and I miss it will probably be above the wire and I will hit a three needing to go for a double 1 and if I go below the wire I will go bust.
If you have any darts or you know somebody that has darts I would like to see them and see what you like about your current darts that you or they are using.
Until next time
Not sure if you all have seen the first Mates Madness weekly wrap post (view it here) but I suck at throwing doubles in darts, which is pretty bad because you need to throw a double to win in either 501 or 301. I can throw 20’s consistently enough to get down in the double throwing position pretty quickly but from there it all falls to pieces.
I have decided that as I normally get down to 2 and end up throwing at double 1 if I cant learn to hit that pretty consistently I will be able to turn my fortunes around and start getting some wins on the board.
Check out my little practice session below.
As you can see I still have plenty of work to do to be able to consistently hit that double but i am getting there slowly.
Once I get this down I will move back to triple 20.

Since moving into a new house 6 months ago our garage has just been storage and far from well organised storage, I am talking we have just thrown stuff in there to deal with it later. Now we don’t plan to park the car in there so it hasn’t really been a major deal and neither the front yard or back yard have been done so there is still plenty of work to be done here. Check my garage in the video below
Now as you can see you can only just get from one end to the other, there is stuff everywhere some of if can simply go into the bin. So last weekend I set out about changing that, on my old house I had the dart board up and I would have some mates come around occasionally and we would throw some darts and its time for that to happen again as well.
So I went down to the local hardware store who coincidentally were having a huge sale and picked up so simple to put together shelving – no drilling, screw drivers or allen keys required. From there I made a plan clear a space in the corner to build and place the first set of 4 storage units, the first one took me a bout 40 minutes while I was figuring out how they went together (yes I know I could have read the instruction but honestly who does that). After I had the first set of shelves up I filled them to create space to build and place the second set. All of the heavy stuff such as spare tiles from the house build down the bottom to give the shelves more stability.
Second one up right next to the first one and large things like left over floating floor across the top of both third and fourth set of shelves up to create a U shape to segregate off the storage section of the garage. Then I tech screwed in some MDF to the back to the set of shelves facing into the garage placed the dart board on that. Setup a foldup table grabbed a camp chair and for now we are done. We still have some items in the garage which still need to find permanent homes or sold on Gum Tree such as the cot a change table and a few other things that our daughters no longer require. Once they are gone and I feel that space to add to the man cave feel I will give you all an update but for now check out the finished product.
Since the video was taken my 6yr old a I painted the MDF backing Woodland Grey as per the featured image for the post, this was left over paint used to paint our old zinc fence.
