April Wrap

Hi All

So we have just finished our first full month since relaunching Mates Madness from scratch so I thought I would give you a quick April wrap up. As expected its been a slow build but things are coming along nicely. Throughout the month we have had 140 different visitors many of them coming back more than once. These visitors have viewed the 28 new pieces of content added to the site which contained about 15 different videos. although through the month it did not seem like we got that many different posts up its very pleasing showing that we averaged just under one new piece of content each day.

Our most popular post for the month was Kieran’s AFL evolution DLC post with 43 views and our 2nd most popular post for the month is actually only 5 days old “New Android App – Astronaut Space Walk” This post has had 30 views.

19 comments were made against posts with 3 of those comments coming from readers just like yourself which is great to see people already getting involved across the Mates Madness website. I am hoping for this number to double during May. The next target is to get some comments on our Youtube channel and double our number of subscribers there from 8 to 16. The overall goal is to get to 1,000 subscribers as that is one of the requirements needing to be meet to monetize the channel which is a clear goal for us.

In regards to Android app development we now have 10 apps up on the Playstore with about 30 installs across all 10 apps, we have earnt about $3.50 from these apps which is great starting platform. Across all income channels we earnt $6 for the month of April which is no where near anything to write home about but it does give us some indication of what is working, what needs work and what to move away from.

Goals for the month of May

  • Get 10 quality videos up 5 of which are to feature Kieran or myself
  • Get 10 new apps on the Playstore
  • Get 31 new posts here on the Mates Madness website (1 per day)
  • Begin working with an affiliate program such as Amazon
  • 10 twitter posts
  • 25% increase in income
  • 50% increase in comments from visitors to Mates Madness
  • Youtube channel to 20 subscribers
  • 1 new recurring theme developed
  • 50 app downloads
  • 5 app reviews

Wish us luck, even better support us, leave a comment, search Mates Madness on the Playstore and download and test one of our apps, subscribe to our Youtube channel. You may not think you are doing much but every little bit of support helps and we really do appreciate it.

Cheers

Matt

Weekly Wrap 28th April 2018

Even though this week was a short week at work it felt like a long one, getting back into the work groove after a few weeks off was tough, that being said I still made time to get on Mates Madness early in the week to share another of the videos taken whilst I was in Melbourne on my family holiday. Check out the active animals at the Melbourne Zoo.

Kieran shared his overall Batman collection, there is some pretty cool stuff there. Do you guys have a favourite from his current Batman Collection

Kieran and I also conducted a little bit of mad science (see the pun, Mates Madness) we dropped a whole heap of different lollies into Coca Cola (Coke) to check out the different reactions so pretty cool and some were fizzers.

As mentioned above it was short work week with Anzac Day falling mid week on a Wednesday, Lest We Forget. A day of acknowledgement of a fallen soldiers a day where we reflect on the significant sacrifices made by the Australian and New Zealand soldiers to enable us to have the life that we have today.

Mates Madness launched a new app and probably the best app that we have made so far Astronaut Space Walk a flappy bird clone but instead of an Astronaut dodging Super Mario style tubes you guide an Astronaut between the satellites on his space walk, its no where near as easy as it looks.

Kieran shared his AFL fantasy team and explained some of his reasons behind his selections and his lack of trades, personally with Ablett being injured for a few weeks now I would have traded him out or at least moved him to the bench, there are also some really good new players in the AFL system this year getting games already so I have made some changes to my bench players before prices went up and grabbed some really good bargains on those players but its looks like he has missed out on that.

That’s where the site but not where my week ended, Friday afternoon I found out one of the guys who works at my youngest daughters child care plays footy and his team the Modbury Hawks forfeited the week before because they were short of players. I have not played football (Aussies Rules) in 8-9 years about this time every year I get itchy feet and consider going back out to play somewhere. This information about Modbury has given me itchy feet. Modbury’s ground is only 5 minutes from home and they are also the Hawks which is a big selling point for me. The team he plays in is the D grade so the bottom end competition and considering how long its been since I have played and how unfit I am its the perfect place for me to have a go. Yesterday to help me decide I went out to watch the team play (the C grade had a bye so a few players dropped down for the day giving the them a full side). The team looks good there are a few good players and also a few not so good players who are just out there to have a bit of fun like what I am thinking of doing. This is encouraging for me because it means I wont look out of place while I find a bit of fitness and allowing my skill level to gradually improve over the course of the season. So I have something to think about, if I am going to play I need to make a decision by Wednesday as I will need to go buy some boots and stuff and train and meet the team Thursday night to give me a shot at playing this coming weekend. I will keep you updated with my decision and if I decide to play I will try to arrange either Kieran or someone else to come watch to try to capture some footage of how I go.

Thats a wrap folks

New Android App – Astronaut Space Walk

Today the latest Mates Madness app went live on the Play Store. Its a game/clone of flappy bird but I must say a little harder, the gaps between the obstacles are a little smaller that being said its based in space and who doesn’t like space. Check out me poorly playing Astronaut Space Walk in the video below

As you can see I am pretty crap at the game but you get the idea, I would love to see some of the high scores from the readers here on Astronaut Space Walk, maybe download play/test our game then comment below with your highest score maybe even screen shot it and share it to your socials.

Please check us out on the Play Store we currently have a few different “Match 3” games around different genres to cater for different taste and are looking to expand our games though. Check out the game I made for my 6yr old daughter to play Rainbows and Unicorns I would like some ideas as to what theme to use for the next clone of this script, is there a particular theme that you would like to see/play?

Over the next few days we are also hoping to release a web browser “simple fast secure browser lite” yes a long name but it is search optimized in the hope more people download it and use it. Check back to the Play Store often over the next few days to look for it as we really appreciate if you could support us by using this as your default browser once it is up and running.

At the end of the month I will share our monthly earnings including what app has made the most income, how much the Mates Madness website has made and future earning plans with you all.

Once again we appreciate your support and hope to see you back here on Mates Madness soon either on desktop or through our web browser on you android device

Cheers

Mates Madness Mad Science with Coke

Hi All

Recently Kieran and I tried a few simple chemical reactions involving Coca Cola and a few other drink in the Coke range such as Diet Coke, Coke No Sugar Sprite and Fanta. We dropped a range of different lollies into the drinks to watch the reaction.

As you can see in the video above we have a lot of different sweet treats that we use in the Cokes and yes we had a few left over to eat. The Orange balloon that was inflated by the chemical reaction was still up 20 minutes later and showed no signs of deflating anytime soon.

Afterwards we remembered that we also had a pack of fruit tingles and a couple of other lollies so we might have to make a second version of this at some stage. I was excited to test out the Mentos reaction which is very common it also had the best reaction out of all of the sweets we tested. I did expect a better reaction from bicarb soda as well but oh well.

Smartly we decided to do this experiment in a park to limit the sticky clean up with Coke and the other drinks going everywhere.

Now from the video we can see that our camera skills need a bit of work but bare with us we will get better

We are hoping to do a range of experiments with white vinegar next if this video is well received, are there anything that you would like to see us mix with vinegar?

Cheers

Melbourne Zoo – Some very active Animals on display

So as part of my family holiday we visited Melbourne Zoo, now it was by far not the biggest nor had the most animals but it was probably the best zoo experience I have had, almost all of the animals were up and about including pretty much all the big draw card animals you can think of when you think about going to a zoo. I was very impressed, the enclosures were large, the views of the animals were great I mean in all but 3 or 4 exhibits you didn’t have to spend 2 minutes finding the animals they were right there in front of you piratically saying hello.

Check out our short video of the lion this big cat was just a couple of metres from the glass and my little 3 yr old girl walked right up to the glass to get a good look, it may as well have been a kitten at the pet store as far as she was concened

Another of the big cats were up and about as well with the tiger pacing back and forth along the edge of its enclosure before going for a big wander to the other side. This is one of two tigers, the other in a different part of the zoo.

Some of the other animals on display included a pigmi hippo, plenty of different types of primates from chimps, gorilla and baboons. Other animals included an elephant, near the back of its enclosure pacing, 3 giraffes which we got a great view of and some zebras which were near the back of there exhibit looking like they wanted to get it to say hi to the giraffes. I also caught an active snake as we walked by which was pretty cool as most of the times at zoos they are just laying there still. As mentioned above I thought Melbourne Zoo was great and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Melbourne or even if you live there if you haven’t been for a while go back and check it out.

If you like these videos visit our you tube channel and subscribe as not all videos we take/make are here on Mates Madness.

Weekly Wrap 22nd April 2018

A more up beat week over the last 7 days, a few shares from my holiday last weekend (more to come next week). The first was my footy footage of the Hawks V Melbourne

A great game to watch all be it freezing cold, even Iron Man made and appearance to promote an  Avengers event in Melbourne. Throughout the rest of the week to be honest I lazed around trying to relax and enjoy the the rest of my holidays from work which didn’t quite go to plan with plenty of house work needing to be done.

I also shared with you all footage from Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium a place my girls aged 6 and 3 loved there was so many different marine animals to see and the tanks were fantastic you got a great view of most of them, Laila my eldest loved the penguins but there were plenty of other fish to see

We would love for you to subscribe to our you tube channel, Kieran got a hair cut and showed us his new do he was also quite excited when his team Geelong got up over Port Adelaide

Something we didn’t discuss here on the Mates Madness website but was a pretty big effort in sport (shared on our twitter account) was Oakland A’s left handed pitching pitching the first no hitter of the 2018 MLB season and the first for the Boston no hit game for the Boston Red Sox since Aprill 22 1993 25 years ago.

So if you have not done so follow us on Twitter, subscribe to our You Tube channel and share this post on your socials and any other post here on Mates Madness that you enjoy.

Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium

My girls loved Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium it is great for all ages. My eldest Laila loved watching the penguins swim, she watched them dart around the water for ages, the penguins also had a land/ice area where they could waddle around. Check out the footage below.

Penguins playing and swimming Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium darting around the water and waddling through the ice

My younger daughter Scarlett loved watching the turtles swim around, this had a lot to do with the fact we have a turtle here at home (Ninja). In the video below you can see the turtles from Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium swimming around, you also get to see there crocodile lazying about.

The Sea Life Croc lazing about and the Turtles swimming around (separate enclosures of course)

The first tank/Aquarium you see when you walk in Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium is the Bay of Rays, the rays get right up to the glass and the surface, the glass is only about 1.5m high so if it wasn’t for the no touching the animals rule you could easily reach out and touch them. Check them out.

Check out the rays at the Melbourne Aquarium from my visit to Sea Life Melbourne. Plenty of fish swimming around in the background and the rays get right up to the glass

The major focal point of Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium is what is know as Mermaid Garden. a 2.2 million litre Oceanarium you walk through perspex roofed  tunnels into a large centre room where you are surrounded by the tank all you need to do is stand there as huge stingrays, massive sharks and hundreds of multi-coloured marine creatures swim by.

Sharks, rays and plenty of fish 10 mins of fish from different sections of the venue, you get to walk through tunnels where the roof is clear perspex and sharks swim directly above you at times you feel like you could almost reach out and touch them

One last video to share with you from Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, the cuttlefish, check out the colour changes in the fish similar to what looks like a pulse

Cuttlefish at Sea Life Melbourne watch the colour change, its pretty cool

While we were there we also took in a 4D movie based around the characters from the movie Ice Age, a great experience, we also found Nemo, seen some eels, starfish, seahorses and heaps of coral.

I am sure next time we are back in Melbourne as a family we will go back there, the girls loved it, its easy to get to great to get around and right in the city so super easy to plan the rest of your day from should you not spend all day there.

Have you been to Sea Life or another aquarium would love to get your thoughts

Cheers

Afternoon at the MCG Hawthorn V Melbourne

So on the Sunday of my family holiday I went to the MCG to check watch the Hawks play the Demons, I was pretty excited I don’t get to see Hawthorn in Melbourne very often so I was really hoping for a win for the Hawks. The weather was not great and I had on only my Hawks media polo from a few years ago so with it only being about 17 degrees and raining on and off I was getting pretty cold. Check out the jacket I brought below (not my best selfie effort) maybe I could smile or something…

I had a great view of the game on the wing almost directly in line with the centre circle, throughout the game I took a whole bunch of video as well check out the merged video footage

My Hawthorn v Melbourne footage MCG 15 April 2018, big win by the Hawks over the Demons

I tried to capture a few goals and some centre clearances, being a Hawks fan I focused way more on when they had the ball. Forgive my poor footage at times I got distracted watching the game sorry…

I found it great to watch Tom Mitchell live, he didn’t have his best game but he works hard always running and getting very few cheap possessions. Melbourne paid him very close attention and the stoppages with Jones almost glued to him yet he was still the leading clearance getting for the game. I reckon he has a great shot to win a Brownlow over the next 2-4 years if he stays injury free. He does need to work on his disposal a little more, he doesn’t quite have the elite kicking skills of some of the more recent great Hawthorn midfielders.

Roughy started slow but got into the game as it went on and we are finally starting to see dividends into the Hawks recruitment of Jaeger O’Meara if he can stay injury free they have a pretty impressive midfield.

Weekly Wrap 16th April 2018

Well another week has come to and end all be it a quiet week here on Mates Madness so its time for the weekly wrap. The week started on the site with me filming myself trying to throw a double something I clearly suck at (check out the video and post here). From there Kieran showed the darts he is currently using, much better than the cheap stuff I am currently throwing.

From there I pretty much left on a short get away with my family, spent the whole first day on the road so didn’t get to see or do to much left at 7am  and arrived between 5 and 6pm. There were a few playgrounds along the way which we stopped for the girls to play on so they got through the drive ok. Whilst away in Melbourne we did a fair bit of walking across the three days (usually an easy time to get active). I was hoping to get in at least 10k steps each of those 3 days, I feel short 1 day but far exceeded that target on day 3. On my getting active post I mentioned my Fitbit that I started wearing again but the short holiday reminded me why I stopped wearing it, SHORT Battery life, it should be getting 5 days and barely got me through 3. Check out the below screen shots from my Iphone across the 3 days, As you can see I smashed the goal as a whole just with days 1 and 3 and had a bit of a lean day on day 2 in comparison,

I’m not going to go into to much about where we visited as I have a few videos to upload and share with you all over the next week or so, so your just going to just have to wait in suspense and see.

Kieran closed out the week with some new about about Cricket Australia’s new broadcast deal with Channel 7 and Foxtel its a great money earner for Cricket Australia, but to lose ODI’s and IT20’s on free to air isn’t great for the game in my opinion, crowds have already dropped for ODI’s and now the viewing with drop as well putting the game in real doubt over the next 5 years, I would suggest the fixture will flip in that period from and 5-10 game ODI series/Tri Series and 3 IT20’s to 3ODI’s and a 5-10 game IT20 series/Tri Series. I guess only time will tell

All going well the next week should make up for the lean week in the way of content as I share with you some of the places I visited in Melbourne including a few short videos.

That’s the weekly wrap

Getting Active Whilst on Holidays

Getting active whilst away from home is generally much easier, there is plenty to do in such a short space of time. Plenty of walking between places lots of walking around the places you visit such as local attractions, through new shopping precients or centres.

On my first day I finally started wearing my fitbit again because I need to get active I need to lose a few KG’s and there is better time to focus on getting active then whilst on holidays and eating crap most of the time. I cracked my 10,000 step goal on the first day and I now have 3 days to go. Ill keep you updated with the daily step count whilst away and try to come up with a plan to crack the 10k step mark each day when I get home.

Also over the next few days I will try to add a few posts and videos covering some of the places we visit. If not as soon as I get home I will get up some videos and stuff

Cheers
